Seedling Art: Toddler & Preschool Art Class (Ages 2.5–4)

This programme is tailored to fine-tune their fine motor skills through drawing and painting. We explore and learn to draw different shapes, lines, colour mixing and mark making during each lesson.

Our toddler and preschool art classes in Singapore welcome children from 2.5 years old. In Seedling Art, little ones explore shapes, lines, colour mixing and mark making through guided drawing and painting — building the fine motor control, hand-eye coordination and focus that set them up for school and for all later art-making. Classes are small, individualised and led by teachers experienced with this age group.

Seedling Art

Art Class for Pre-Schoolers

In this lessons ‘My Favourite Animal’, Matilda 4yo, tapped into her imagination from memory where she visualised the turtle on the beach and applied it to her artwork. To create textures in the artwork, Matilda used a sponge and dabbed the sky for fluffy clouds and oil pastels at the bottom for shadows. Using markers, Matilda added in the patterns for the turtle shell. Such interesting play of imagination from Matilda!

Learning Outcomes

Build Visual Understanding from Young

The first stage of the lesson involves students in understanding the subject matter and how it was drawn through the use of basic shapes. They will be taught to observe and recognise shapes of objects we see daily.

Fine Tune Motor Skills

Fine-tune hand and eye coordination which are essential for art-making and learn to identify the painting areas. Using colours, lines and marks to fill up the designated spaces, students learn how to control their hand, grip, and direction while familiarising themselves with art-making methodology.

Focuses on Student’s Individuality

Our classes are individualised and teachers can customise the references according to the abilities and interests of the students in relevance to the theme.

Toddler & Preschool Art Classes — Frequently Asked Questions

What is Artgrain's Seedling Art programme?

Seedling Art is our art class for toddlers and preschoolers aged 2.5 to 4. Lessons build fine motor skills through drawing and painting, exploring shapes, lines, colour mixing and mark making in a guided, structured setting.

Is 2.5 years old too young to start art classes?

No. Seedling Art is designed specifically for this age. The first stage of each lesson helps children observe and recognise everyday objects as basic shapes, so they build visual understanding from a young age at a pace suited to them.

Do parents stay in the classroom during the lesson?

No — all our classes, including preschool classes, are drop-off and not accompanied by parents. This helps children settle into the class routine and build independence and confidence with their teacher.

What will my toddler actually learn?

Children learn to observe and recognise shapes, then use colours, lines and marks to fill designated spaces. This develops hand and eye coordination, grip and directional control — the foundations for all later art-making.

Are the classes the same for every child?

No. Our Seedling classes are individualised. Teachers customise the references for each child according to their ability and interests, while keeping to the lesson theme.

What is the Artgrain Seedling Booklet?

It is a workbook created by our teachers for preschool students, used during class. It contains structured exercises with clear lesson objectives and visual tools to support your child's learning, and costs $23.

How much does Seedling Art cost and how long is each class?

Each session runs 1.5 hours. A trial lesson is $41, and a module of 10 weekly lessons is $410. A one-time registration fee, deposit, Seedling Booklet and annual material fee apply.
