Clay Art & Sculpture Classes for Kids (Ages 5–16)

This programme brings art-making from 2-dimensionality to 3-dimensionality as students learn to transform their ideas from drawing to reality with clay. Through hands-on modelling, they will learn to expand their creative expression and problem-solve to design spatially.

Our clay art classes for kids in Singapore introduce children aged 5 to 16 to sculpture and three-dimensional art. Working by hand with techniques like slabs, coiling, pinching and moulding, students learn to turn their drawings and ideas into finished clay artworks. Clay Art builds spatial thinking, fine motor control and creative problem-solving — a hands-on complement to drawing and painting, and a favourite with children who like to build and make things.

Clay Art

Art Class for Pre-Schoolers and Primary Schoolers

In this lesson ‘Camping’, Ian Lim, 10yo, learn to develop and transform his ideas into intricate, three-dimensional scenes. Ian explored various texturing techniques such as the use of aluminium foil to add realism to different surfaces like trees and rocks. Check out the amazing final outcome!

Learning Outcomes

Learn to Translate 2D Drawings into 3D Sculptures

Just like 2D art, students will be taught how to apply art elements and design principles to create a visually appealing 3D artwork. This step is crucial as students will have a good grasp of space and 3D form of their subject matters.

Learn Various Clay Techniques

Using modelling techniques like slabs, moulding, coiling and pinching, students will learn how to apply these basic techniques to build precise and increasingly complex 3D designs as they refine their finer motor skills and spatial visualisation.

Explore Sculpting through Thematic Topics

Each lesson has a theme to connect students to their everyday life and draws inspiration from artists, art movements or our history.

Program Fee

A4 Journal will be used to record key concepts and ideas from our teachers and reinforcing learning. It also supports idea development and reflection, allowing students to track creative processes. Material and compositional experimentation for the understanding and application of techniques and ideas.

Clay Art Classes for Kids — Frequently Asked Questions

What is Artgrain's Clay Art programme?

Clay Art is our 3D art class for children aged 5 to 16. Students bring art-making from two dimensions into three, learning to transform their drawings and ideas into sculpted clay artworks through hands-on modelling.

What clay techniques will my child learn?

Students learn core modelling techniques including slabs, moulding, coiling and pinching. They apply these to build increasingly complex 3D designs while developing fine motor skills and spatial visualisation.

Do children use a pottery wheel in clay art classes?

Our Clay Art classes focus on hand-building and sculpture rather than wheel throwing. Students work with sculpting turntables, which rotate so they can shape and refine their piece from every angle — building the modelling skills that underpin all clay work.

Does my child need art experience to join clay art classes?

No. Lessons begin with basic modelling techniques and build up gradually. Each lesson has a theme connected to everyday life, artists, art movements or history, so students of all levels can take part.

What ages are clay art classes for?

Our Clay Art classes are for children and teens aged 5 to 16, covering preschool through primary and secondary levels.

Why is the clay art trial two lessons instead of one?

Clay needs time to dry between stages, so the trial runs across two lessons at $100. This lets your child experience the full process — from building the piece to completing it — rather than only the first half.

How much do clay art classes cost and how long is each class?

Each session runs 1.5 hours, with a module of 10 weekly lessons at $500. A two-lesson trial is $100. A one-time registration fee, deposit and annual material fee apply.

How do I book a clay art trial class?

Book your two-lesson trial online or message us on WhatsApp, then choose your nearest Artgrain branch and preferred timing. Classes are drop-off and not accompanied by parents.
