How do I display the artworks?
For canvas works and drawings in frame, you may hang a nail or use a 3M hanging strip on the wall. For clay sculptures you may display them anywhere as long as they are stable. As our clay is not fired, it may be fragile, we recommend that it is handled with care.Â
How do I bring the work home?
For canvases and drawings, you can easily carry it and put it in the back of your car. For the large clay and mixed media sculptures, we suggest you bring in a box large enough to fit them and put in newspapers/bubble wraps to stuff in between so they do not move during transport.
Will there be any break time in that 3hrs workshop?
Yes, there is a 15 minute break in between the 3 hour class. You can let your child bring some light snacks to consume during this time.
Is it too young for my child to join the Seedling Program? Can they complete their work independently?
No it is not. Young kids are at this stage of curiosity where we feel is important to let them reach a visual understanding of objects around us despite their age. Works will be closely guided for younger kids. At times, demonstrations on the kids work will be need to help them understand better. Teachers will set the pace and teaching method according to the students individual ability/needs.
For Digital program, do we need to bring our own Ipad?
Ipads will be provided in class, once the student have completed their artwork we will send the final soft copy file to parents and students will get to bring home a printed hard copy as well. Student can also choose to work on their own devices, we just need to make sure their devices is workable with a stylus pen and they have downloaded the app within. Apps we use to teach are Procreate and Autodesk Sketchbook.
My older kids have previous art experience, can they be enrolled directly into the Developmental Program?
They are able to do the Developmental trial, and the teacher will feedback to you about your child’s skill, as Developmental Art requires a higher degree of observational drawing and independence. If needed your child can enrol into our Foundational Art for at least 2 modules first.
What courses should I pick?
It really depends on individual student (which areas are your child is more interested in) and parent (which area you would like your child to work on). Feel free to look through our programmes outline for more informations or reach out to us directly.
My child just want to experience the whole DSA training and looking to do it for leisure instead not to DSA, can they come in for once a week lesson?
In such cases, kindly note Artgrain will not be accountable for say midway your child decided to try out the DSA route. Due to a shorter timeframe, there will not be enough time to complete the full set of portfolio works that are equipped with the necessary skills in dealing with auditions and Interviews. We will recommend considering our Developmental Art Programme instead.
Can the portfolio workshops classes be makeup for if absent?
Unfortunately there will not be any makeup/replacement classes if your child is not able to attend. You can however check in with your child’s teacher on whats he/she have missed and complete the assigned tasks as homework in order to catch up the progress.
Why are all the portfolio workshops located at Thomson branch?
It is important for all our portfolio students to experience an environment simulating the auditions/interviews, in a group setting. Therefore all portfolio holiday workshops and Visual Art Task trainings are conducted at the Thomson branch as it is big enough to accommodate all students.
Is the portfolio workshops compulsory? They are unable to come for the workshop classes, but would like to attend the regular weekly portfolio class instead, is it possible?
Our Portfolio workshops comes hand in hand with our regular classes, in which whatever is being taught during the workshops is related and will be followed up during the students’ regular classes as well. It will thus be difficult for your child to catch up with the progress, without the necessary extra trainings.
My child does not want to DSA, looking to do for AEP instead.
The requirements of our Portfolio Programme applies to AEP as well, the requirements are similar hence your child will still need to attend 4hrs/week classes along with the additional Portfolio Workshops.
I am unable to commit to 4hrs/weekly minimum, are there any alternatives?
No, students will need ample time to train and complete their portfolio up to the DSA Portfolio standards. As this route is certainly competitive, students will need to attend at least 4hr/week sessions in order to fully prepare and train them for the needed areas.
How long does it take to complete 1 artwork?
1 full body of artwork includes the final outcome, explorational studies, as well as the brainstorming process. It will take the students 1 module to complete.
How long is the Portfolio Programme?
The Portfolio Programme is a 2.5 year course for kids aged 10-12, if your child joins during late P5/P6, they will need to attend extra lessons (eg. 3hrs twice a week) to be able to finish their portfolio of required 10 works. It will be all the way until the end of their submission of the DSA process.
