Art Class for Pre-Schoolers & Primary Schoolers
In this artwork title ‘My Beautiful Singapore’, Yiran 6yo, wanted to paint herself with her favourite local snacks - colourful kueh. Rice and salts for the blooming and grains effects. Such creative way of looking at materials!
Learning Outcomes
Exploration and Experimentation Focused
Centred on a more hands-on learning, through explorations and experimentations. Students are exposed to a wide variety of materials and techniques to draw on their influences on how to approach art in different ways.
Practice Independent Thinking
Each lesson is structured to guide students through each stage of the creative process: Experimentation, Problem-Solving and Resolution. Students will then develop their own natural ability and aptitude to handle projects which require sustained creativity and maturity.
Open-Ended Art Education
Students experiment with diverse media and explore techniques for making art. Developing concepts through processes and techniques. Producing a process of reflection and evaluation, showing a synthesis of concept. Much like international baccalaureate arts (IB).
Program Fee
A4 Journal will be used to record key concepts and ideas from our teachers and reinforcing learning. It also supports idea development and reflection, allowing students to track creative processes. Material and compositional experimentation for the understanding and application of techniques and ideas.

Creative Art Classes for Children — Frequently Asked Questions
What is Artgrain's Creative Programme?
The Creative Programme is an open-ended art class for children aged 5 to 10. Rather than following a fixed outcome, children explore and experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques, and are encouraged to respond independently to each project.
How is the Creative Programme different from Headstart and Foundation Art?
It is an alternative path rather than a replacement. Headstart and Foundation Art build skills through structured, guided lessons. The Creative Programme is more open-ended and hands-on, focusing on exploration, experimentation and independent thinking.
Which programme should I choose for my child?
It depends on how your child learns. Children who enjoy exploring materials freely and working things out for themselves tend to thrive in the Creative Programme, while those who prefer step-by-step skill building may suit Headstart or Foundation Art. Our teachers are happy to advise.
What materials and techniques will my child use?
Students work with diverse media and experiment with unconventional materials to create texture and pattern — for example combining watercolour with cling wrap, bubble wrap, rice or salt. The aim is to discover different ways of approaching art.
What does my child actually learn in the Creative Programme?
Each lesson guides students through the stages of the creative process: experimentation, problem-solving and resolution. Over time children develop the ability to sustain longer creative projects, reflect on their work and evaluate their own ideas.
What ages is the Creative Programme for?
The Creative Programme is for children aged 5 to 10, covering both preschool and primary school students.
How much does the Creative Programme cost and how long is each class?
Each session runs 1.5 hours. A trial lesson is $42, and a module of 10 weekly lessons is $420. A one-time registration fee, deposit, Artgrain Journal and annual material fee apply.
