Creative Program (Age 5 to 10)

How do we teach creativity? It’s a tricky thing to define because it’s different for everyone. Creativity is about how we approach ideas based on our own experiences and perspectives.

At Artgrain, we help our students develop creativity by exposing them to different art experiences and perspectives. For example, when drawing a bird, we don’t teach students just one way to do it. Instead, we teach them about constructing a bird with basic shapes, observing details, different bird types and poses, various art styles, mediums and techniques, and how to express ideas of movement or flight. By combining these aspects, students can come up with many different solutions and ideas. This process encourages them to think outside the box, to be able to connect ideas together and explore different ways to create their artwork. Thus, our Creative Programme encourages open-ended exploration.

So how is the Creative program different from our Headstart and Foundational Art program? In comparison, our Headstart programme focuses on responding to themes and using design principles, while our Foundational programme develops technical skills through observation. The Creative Programme is similar to the International Baccalaureate (IB) teaching approach, where students engage in various processes before deciding on a final outcome. Choosing which program to sign up for will depend on you and your child’s interests.
